LaMar Herschel Metcalf

1941 ~ 2017

LaMar Herschel Metcalf, 76, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2017 at home from natural causes with his wife by his side.

He was born January 27, 1941 to Herschel LeRoy and Ruth Etta (Schauerhamer) Metcalf. He was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from Highland High School and the University of Utah. He served honorably in the United States Coast Guard. LaMar was sealed for time and all eternity to his sweetheart Carol Lynn Allsop in the Salt Lake Temple on June 11, 1962. They shared 55 years of marriage together.

LaMar believed in being very frugal but even with being frugal, he led an abundant life. LaMar had three wishes in life which were: One, to own his own business, which he successfully built and owned, LaMar H. Metcalf Insurance Agency; Two, to own his own home; and three, to never acquire any debt. All of these goals he successfully accomplished within his lifetime.

He was extremely pleased with his family. He was a very hard worker and believed in the Moto that," if you are to do something, then do your best, or don't do it at all." He was extremely generous to those who did not have enough. He would help others but would not want any recognition for doing so.

LaMar was a pilot who enjoyed flying his family to various fun vacation spots. In the later years he enjoyed building and flying R.C. airplanes, but his association with his friends in the Falcon Park Flyers was one of his most treasured memories.

LaMar was extremely talented. He could build anything with his hands. He had many hobbies which he enjoyed. Some of these hobbies were painting, wood working, raising and showing pigeons and chickens, building model airplanes and even shared his wife's hobby of quilting to spend more time with her. He will be greatly missed. Thanks for being a husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. Watch over us until we meet again.

He was survived by his wife Carol Lynn Allsop; three children Troy LaMar (Lora), Clark Herschel, and Teresa Dawn Gamboa (John); along with 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Larry and Rick.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, November 28th from 6-8 p.m. located at the Forest Bend Ward, 7784 South 2000 East (Highland Drive) Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
