Winifred Amy Osborn Smith

1916 ~ 2015

Winifred Amy Osborn Smith, age 98, passed away July 16, 2015 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born September 9, 1916 in St. Albans, Herts, England, to Ernest William Osborn and Kate Maria Powell. She married Horace H Smith on June 27, 1942 in St. Albans Abby, England. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple on May 23, 1951.

Winnie and Horace and two daughters immigrated to Salt Lake in 1951. She was an active member of the LDS Church, and was the first lady missionary called during WWII to London. She served as Relief Society President twice, on the Stake Relief Society Board and in the Primary Presidency. Winnie loved to knit and won many blue ribbons at the state fair. She was an avid Utah Jazz fan.

Survived by her children: Laraine (Leon) Nielson, Centerville, Judith (Brent) Nielsen, Sandy, and Adrian (Mari Ann) Smith, Kearns; nine grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace, and five siblings and their spouses. Winnie was the last to go.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 20, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Belvedere Ward, 607 East Downington Ave. (1830 South). Friends and family may visit Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, and Monday morning one hour prior to services at the ward. Interment will follow at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
