Merlin Ricks Leishman

1916 ~ 2015

Grandad got his wish to be twinkled on Tuesday Aug. 11, 2015. Merlin was born on September 18, 1916, almost 99 years ago, to Daniel Adamson and Pearl Ricks Leishman in Wellsville, Utah. He loved being raised in Cache Valley, learning to work on the farm and fish in the streams where he developed a life-long love of fishing. He graduated from USU and went to work for Standard Stations, Inc.

When WWll started he enlisted in the Army, going to OCS and then was assigned to work with medical units. While stationed at Bushnell General Hospital in Brigham City, Utah, he met his future bride, Marjorie Robbins. They were wed on May 7, 1943 in the Logan Temple. They were parted by her death in 1998. He can finally see his sweetheart again. When the war was over he stayed in the Army Reserve serving through the Korean War until his mandatory retirement. After Korea he started his chosen profession, selling life insurance and doing estate planning which he did until he retired at age 82. He was very active in the LDS Church serving in many callings. He had a strong testimony of the gospel which he shared often. He has no enemies, only friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marjorie, brother LeVern, son Larry and grandson John.

He is survived by his daughter Mari Lin Cox and husband Lynn, son Kim and wife Becky, daughter-in-law Carol, 16 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, brother Theron and favorite sister Maureen Baugh and husband Charles.

The funeral service is Monday Aug.17 at 12:00 in the Monument Park 16t Ward on 1320 South Wasatch Blvd (2500 East) with a viewing at 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. There will be a viewing Sunday night from 6-8 at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 E. 1300 So.
