Virginia Sullivan Holtry Dickson

1935 ~ 2016

On September 10, 2016, our beloved wife and mother passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born May 9, 1935, to Theodore and Helen Sullivan Holtry, she grew up in Roy, Utah and graduated from Weber High School. She attended Weber College with an art scholarship. Throughout her youth she enjoyed painting, drawing, and playing the piano.

She married her sweetheart, Max Cook Dickson, on June 13, 1957, in the Salt Lake Temple and devoted her life to family and the LDS Church. She was an excellent cook and seamstress. When Virginia chose a hobby, she perfected it. As a result she became a superb quilter. Family history work was important to her; she had a gift for remembering each ancestor in detail. As a dedicated extraction worker, Virginia worked with determination and mentored others. She especially enjoyed teaching primary and singing in the ward choir. Virginia never hesitated to bear her testimony to her family. She brought her family together often for family parties and made each of them feel special and loved. Caring and compassionate, she filled her life with service.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years; children: Calvin (Cherie) Dickson, Teresa Dickson, Paula (Brad) Hansen; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; siblings: David (Nancy) Holtry, Ted (Rita) Holtry, Alice Sidwell, Pam (Warren) Turner, Peggy Marston. She is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Nancy and Linda.

Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 17, 2016, at the Canyon Rim Ward, 1050 East Galena Dr. (9800 South), Sandy, Utah. Friends may call Friday evening, 6 to 8 p.m., at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, Utah, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to funeral services at the ward. Interment: Larkin Sunset Gardens.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Lines and the medical staff at LDS hospital, home care nurse Andrea, and aide Wonda for their kind and loving care. Special thanks to physician Diane Kendall for her years of dedicated service.
