Marjorie Warshaw Mackey

1921 ~ 2016

Marjorie Corinne Warshaw Mackey, age 94, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2016, in Salt Lake City, Utah, surrounded by her family. Marge was born in Salt Lake City, June 9, 1921 to Maurice Warshaw and Inez Williams Warshaw. She grew up in Salt Lake City, and while attending at East High School met the love of her life, Donald Aubrey Mackey. He had just moved in around the corner from Marge's home on Yale Avenue and they fell in love. They have been devoted to each other ever since.

Marge graduated from the University of Utah, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and made many lifelong friends. While Don was on officer's leave from the Navy, he and Marge were married on July 10, 1944 in Salt Lake City. Marge and Don made a great team. Together, they raised their family of five children in a home filled with love and great adventures. After Don got his pilot's license, Marge enrolled in flight school too, so she could co-pilot their twin-engine plane. Together, they flew their children on many trips in the family plane, including a cross-country trip to the New York World's Fair.

Marge had a great gift of communication. She was attentive and aware of each family member, and helped them feel the value and importance of their life. Marge was a gracious hostess, and brought her family together for countless dinners and holiday celebrations. The annual Easter egg hunt at "Margie and Daddy Don's" home was among the most anticipated events of the year. Marge was a driving force in keeping her ever-growing family wonderfully close.

Marge's influence and service extended beyond her family to the community. Her civic involvement included service with The Junior League, The Utah Symphony Board, The University of Utah Alumni Board, and The Assistance League. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren are inspired by her life's example of service, and are grateful for her legacy of love, dedication and devotion to Don and her family.

Marge bravely battled the effects of Alzheimer's Disease for many years. Through that challenge Don was a stellar example of daily service to his sweet companion Margie. Thank you, Dad.

It is with profound gratitude that our family would like to thank all who provided Marge with tender, loving, and dignified care over the past five and one-half years, especially her caregivers and nurses at Alta Ridge Care Center.

Marge is survived by her husband of 71 years, Donald Aubrey Mackey; five children: Randall Aubrey Mackey (Margaret), Corinne Cannon (George), Cynthia Eldredge (Brent), Shauna Angerbauer, Russ Mackey (Jill), all of Salt Lake City; 25 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; a sister Patricia (Arnie) Ferrin, and sister-in-law Susan (Keith) Warshaw. She was preceded in death by a brother, Keith Warshaw.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 28, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South. Friends may call at a viewing prior to the services from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
