Fern Riggs Morris

1923 ~ 2015

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt, Fern Riggs Morris, age 91, passed away peacefully from complications due to a stroke on March 21, 2015 in her home surrounded by her family.

Mom was born May 3, 1923 in Panguitch, Utah to Mildred Dalley and J. Angus Riggs. She is one of eight children. When her family moved to Salt Lake, she met her love Harry Morris, Jr. (deceased 21 years ago) and on May 3, 1940 they were married in her parents' home. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple with their two children sealed to them.

She was known as "GaGa" by many. As an active and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in the Primary as a teacher and secretary for 20 years, Relief Society, and did extractions for Family History. Mom was employed at the LDS Church Cafeteria where she worked for 18 years.

Mom adored her family. She loved being around children and taking care of them. She led by example ‚ always kind and loving to others. She was the perfect mom! She was a meticulous housekeeper, seamstress, great cook, delicious candy maker, and also cut the hair of many in the family. She is one who endured to the end with grace and dignity. Her last words were, "I love you, so much."

Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn (David) Thomas, SLC; Rick (Robbie) Morris, Sandy, UT; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and 1 sister, Hazel R. Cameron, Mesa, AZ.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 12:00 noon at the First Ward, 760 East 700 South, Salt Lake City. Viewings will be held Friday evening at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday morning from 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to funeral services.

We as a family wish to express our thanks and appreciation to Health South Rehabilitation Center, and to Hospice for Utah for their sweet tender care of Mom in her last two months of life.
