Betty Leone Bullen Knight

1930 ~ 2018

Our much beloved mother, grandmother and friend, Betty Leone Knight, passed away on August 14, 2018 at the age of 87. Betty was born to Herschel Keith Bullen and Eva James Bullen in Salt Lake City and grew up in the Sugarhouse area.

She graduated from South High where she had the honor of being valedictorian of her graduating class. She attended Utah State University where she met her life-long love and companion James Nolan Knight. Mom loved to tell the story of the marriage that almost did not happen. On his way to the wedding dad apparently got stuck in the annual Salt Lake Santa Claus Parade causing him to be quite late. Mom's dad was certain she had been stood up and was about ready to grab a shot gun and hunt down the scoundrel when, thankfully for mom, dad arrived and the ceremony proceeded without further ado. The wedding day scare was just one example of the many loving adventures mom and dad would share throughout their life together.

Betty worked many years as an elementary school secretary in several schools in the Granite School District. More than one teacher expressed the opinion that, if not for Betty, the school would have ground to a halt. Jim and Betty were avid square dancers and were instrumental in bringing the National Square Dance Convention to Utah in 1991. Betty spent much of the latter part of her life in St. George where she developed a deep love of Southern Utah's Redrock Country. Indeed, about the only passion she had greater than her love of Southern Utah was her passion for getting the family together for trips including multiple cruises to exciting and exotic ports of call. Intelligent, kind and gentle, Betty will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her sons, Paul and Kevin Knight, their wives, Cindy and Diana Knight, grandchildren Jason Knight, Richard Knight, Gary Knight, Andrea Knight and great-granddaughter Aria Knight.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 24, 2018 beginning at 2:00 pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd. in Sandy. A visitation will be held prior beginning at 1:00 pm. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens.
