Keith Deloss Bird

1928 ~ 2019

Keith Deloss Bird, was born on November 20, 1928 in Bluebell Utah to Clarence O. Bird and Lydia Lisonbee and died January 28, 2019 in Salt Lake City Utah. He grew up in Bluebell Utah and later entered the Army where he was enlisted in the Korean war. He moved to Salt Lake City Utah after marrying Donna Vee Maxfield from Altonah Utah on March 17, 1951. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on March 17, 1952. They raised two children, Dwayne and Maxine Bird in Kearns, Utah. Following the death of Donna on January 17, 1988, Keith married Annie Butler in the Jordan River Temple on May 21, 1988 and lived in Salt Lake City with her and her two children, Steve and Tami Butler.

Keith worked for the United States Forest Service where he helped build trails and cabins near and around Moon Lake in the Unita mountains. He later worked as a semi-truck driver for Safeway's stores in Salt Lake City from 1953 until retirement in 1985. He then worked as a camp host at Strawberry Reservoir for about six years. He was known as a "jack of all trades" and loved restoring old cars with his son Dwayne. He enjoyed fishing and took an untold number of people fishing with him in his boat or on the river. He was also known as a rock hound. He loved going out to the west desert and digging around for geodes. He was extremely generous with his time and loved sharing his geode finds with others. Almost everyone who met Keith left with some fishing equipment or a geode. He kept a well-manicured vegetable garden and loved sharing the fruits of his labors. He loved his family and enjoyed being with them. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held multiple church callings. Among those callings he loved being a scout master and later a member of the Bishopric his home ward in the Kearns 13th Ward. He served as a High Councilor in his home stake in the Union Fort Stake.

Keith was preceded in death by nine brothers, two sisters, their spouses, and one great-grandchild. He is survived by his wife Annie, one brother Jack Bird, children Dwayne (Sharon) Bird, Maxine Smith, Tami Butler, and Steve Butler. He was adored by eleven grandchildren and their spouses, twenty great-grandchildren, and one adopted daughter Karen Munson.

His viewing and funeral services will be this Friday, February 1, 2019 at the Little Cottonwood 20th Ward located at 1160 E Vine Street, Salt Lake City Utah. The viewing will be from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. and the funeral services will be held at noon. Interment will be at the Redwood Memorial Estates.
