Florence Thomas Marchant Jones

1926 ~ 2013

Florence Thomas Marchant Jones, age 87, our much-loved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Sept. 18, 2013, in Taylorsville, and joined her beloved husband who preceded her in death in 2001.

Florence was born in Peoa, Utah, on April 10, 1926, to Abraham Franklin and Mary Ellen Thomas Marchant. She graduated from South Summit High School. After high school she joined the U.S. Nurse Cadets and later graduated with her Registered Nurse diploma through LDS Hospital. Florence married Glenn Franson Jones in the Salt Lake Temple on Aug. 12, 1947.

She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many ward and stake callings including Relief Society President. She was a Salt Lake Temple ordinance worker for over 11 years and a docent for the Museum of Church History and Arts.

Florence loved roses and looked forward to a blooming amaryllis each year. She enjoyed cooking and hosting for friends and family. One of her joys in life was to bake fruit pies with her famous pie crust. She enjoyed watching the Utah Jazz, BYU and all sports. She dearly loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Above all, she loved to laugh. You may read this and recall a joke from her that touched your heart or tickled your funny bone. That sense of humor is her legacy of love, which she leaves behind in her five daughters: Karolyn Avery, Annette (Sam) McBride, Shelly (Gary) Pederson, Mary Kaye (Jeff) Reynolds and Kathy (Mike) Searle; her 22 grandchildren; and her 23 great-grandchildren in whom she took such pride and joy and whose photos she loved to share.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her three brothers and three sisters and two grandsons. What a joyful reunion!
