Our beloved father and grandfather, William Heber Milner (Bill), passed away on
Sunday, January 4, 2015, following a long life of service to his family, community,
and country.
Born in Spanish Fork, Utah on February 10, 1922 to Robert Mackey Milner and Katie
Ann Robertson, Bill married his high school sweetheart, Janet Jarvis, on November
17, 1941 in Spanish Fork. They made their home in Salt Lake City, and had four
children. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
Bill served as a diesel mechanic in the Army 853rd Engineer Aviation Battalion
during World War II. He survived the bombing of the HMT Rohna, the single largest
maritime loss of U.S. troops, received a Purple Heart, and spent the remainder of his
service in India.
Bill worked as a journeyman diesel and trailer mechanic for Fruehauf Corporation
for 39 years.
Active in the LDS Church, he served many years in leadership positions, and enjoyed
fellowshipping and working with others. He and Janet also enjoyed many years
working in the Salt Lake Temple.
Bill enjoyed camping in Diamond Fork canyon, fishing, and travelling with his
family.
Survived by son, Scott, and daughter, Deanna, 5 grandchildren, and 12 greatgrandchildren,
and 1 great-great-grandchild. Preceded in death by his wife, Janet,
and two sons, Bill and Ted.
Services will be held Friday, January 9, 2015 at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350
E. 1300 S., Salt Lake City, Utah, at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held at the mortuary
that morning from 9:30-10:45.
