Robert E. Fisher

1927 ~ 2014

Bob passed away on the evening of December 27, 2014 after a fall that resulted in a head injury. Active all his days, he endured a slow decline in physical ability. He is now free.

Bob was born June 22, 1927 to Joshua and Naomi Smith Fisher; the second oldest of four children. He married Janyce Patterson in the Salt Lake Temple on April 3, 1952. She preceded him in death on December 20, 2004. Together they had four children, ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Bob found love again with a former high-school classmate, Elaine Preece Rosenbury, and married her on June 3, 2006.

Bob graduated from East High School near the end of World War II, and then enlisted in the Navy, serving on a troop transport ship bringing soldiers home from the battlefield. Having sailed around the world, he never wanted to go on a cruise, thinking that he had already seen what needed to be seen from a ship. He was proud of serving his country and was eager to share stories of his Navy experiences with others.

Bob played football at East High School and continued to play football while attending the University of Utah. A knee injury ended his football career early, but not his love of the sport. He remained an avid sportsman throughout his life. Golf was his favorite, followed by running, waterskiing and racquetball. Most of all he loved activities with his family.

Earning a business degree, he started a career as a State Farm Insurance agent in 1951. Bob always enjoyed talking with and helping people, which made him successful in his insurance career. Every client was important to him whether they had one policy, five or more. That was characteristic of all he did. He was kind to all.

Bob is survived by his second wife, Elaine, by his four children, Robert S. Fisher (Julie), Robyn F. Airmet, Rebecca Hayward (Paul) and Steven Fisher (Daren Young); by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren (with two more on the way). Bob was preceded in death by his brothers Hugh and Jack and by his sister Barbara Faldmo.
