Linda P. Bird - "Like they Fly"

1941 - 2014

Our dear Mom, Sister, "Nana", "auntie Lola" and friend, passed away on September 9, 2014 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Linda Lee Pelton was born on October 6, 1941 in Chicago, IL to Phillip and Leah Pelton. She was a graduate of East High School and attended the University of Utah, where she was affiliated with Pi Beta Phi sorority. She married John Arthur Mortensen in 1963 and later divorced. They had two beautiful daughters, Casey Lee and Hope Louise. Linda was a beautiful woman and in her early years modeled for many ads in Utah. She was a talented Interior Designer, with a modern style of class. In 1980, she met the love of her life in Park City, Dennis Clark Bird and they married and shared 25 plus years together. With their artistic talents of Dennis being an Executive Chef and Linda with her Interior Design, together they started Bird's Cafe in Salt Lake City. They later moved and shared a wonderful life together in Southern California and enjoyed the beach, their dogs, renovating and designing homes and the culinary arts. They moved back to Utah in 2006 to retire and renovate one last home together. Sadly, Dennis suddenly passed away that year. Linda reconnected with her high school sweetheart in 2007, Steve Aldous, and they shared five fun loving years together in Park City, Utah. Linda's sense of style was classic and graceful. Even in the later years with her struggle with Alzheimer's Disease, she always managed to keep us all on our toes and bring a smile to our hearts.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, husband's John A. Mortensen, Dennis C. Bird and dear friend Steve Aldous. Linda is survived by her daughters, Casey Porciuncula, Fountain Valley, CA, Hope Malloy, Park City, UT, grandchildren, Nathan and Nicholas Porciuncula, Audrey and John Malloy, her sweet sister, Daryl Garnas, Costa Mesa, CA, niece, Anne Lamb, dear friend Jane Williams and many friends and in laws that loved Linda. Special thanks to the wonderful and supportive staff at Sunrise of Sandy, especially Hailee, Megan and "Jimmy" John and the terrific staff at Brighton Home Hospice.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 So.), Sandy, where friends and family may visit one hour prior to the services. Graveside service to follow after memorial and a celebration of Linda's life will follow that.

We love you mom and will miss you and your classic beauty and colorful sense of humor! In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the Alzheimer's Association, Utah Chapter.
