John W. VanKomen

1943 ~ 2014

John W. VanKomen "Gramps" passed away peacefully Friday May 16th with his loving family at his side due to complications following surgery.

John leaves behind what he treasured the very most, his wife and best friend of 52 years, Eileen his two children; Joni/Tedd Prokopis, John/Michelle VanKomen and the light of his life, his beloved grandchildren.; Johnny, Mikelle, Taylor, Kaitln, and Nicole. They were blessed with the best gramps ever. He was always there to share every highlight during their lives.

Born July 4th 1943 in Amsterdam, Holland. John immigrated at the age of four to the US with his family to begin his journey and leave a legacy consisting of the most genuine, moral and hardworking person one could imagine. He led by example. He lived life his way even until the end.

John began working at a young age striving to become self-dependent. Later he successfully started, owned and operated V and W Volkswagen which he proudly ran for 40 years, most of which was with his son John. He met the lifelong love of his life Eileen at age 17; soon after they married and were later blessed with two children. He was always proud of how they conducted their lives. His life was made complete by his five amazing grandchildren.

His favorite times in life were spent supporting whatever his wife, children and grandchildren enjoyed, everything from camping, family vacations, and teaching his children and grandchildren life lessons. John will be deeply missed by a large number of close extended family, friends, and basically anyone who met him. He was loved by all!

Honey- Thank you for 52 outstanding faithful years of your love and support. You never missed a special occasion or anniversary. I will deeply miss the guidance, companionship, and unwavering support you provided. You left us too soon. Love You Always, Eileen.

Gramps ‚ We will miss your love and attention along with everything you taught and provided us. You have always been our biggest fan and supporter.

Preceded in death by his parents; Bouke VanKomen, John and Joan Sergakis. He is survived by his immediate family, four loving brothers; Paul, Frank, Sier, Bobby, and his adored sister Kim. John also leaves behind many other cherished relatives, family, and friends. He will be deeply missed and greatly remembered by many.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 2pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 S. Sandy, UT. Visitations on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 from 6-8pm and on Thursday from 1:00-1:45pm prior to the service. Interment to follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
