LaVon Irene Robinson Gibb

1933 ~ 2014

LaVon Irene Robinson Gibb ‚ July 27, 1933-March 8, 2014 - Our kind, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend returned home to her heavenly parents on March 8, 2014 after a twenty-year battle with mitochondrial myopathy, which never diminished her bright outlook on life. LaVon was born July 27, 1933 in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada to Harry and Hannah Robinson with her twin sister LaVere. She and her family converted to and were baptized members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after her family's introduction to the missionaries by her older brother Stewart Robinson. LaVon always tenderly recalled, and was continually grateful for, Stewart and his introduction of the Gospel to her family. LaVon worked on the family farm and graduated from high school in 1951. She received her nursing education at the Galt School of Nursing in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. LaVon had an intense passion for nursing, with a particular interest in obstetrics, which she practiced for more than 40 years. LaVon was active in sports for much of her life participating in track and basketball at Raymond High School and thereafter.

LaVon married James Woolley Gibb on September 14, 1956 in the LDS Cardston Alberta Temple. They moved to Edmonton where she supported Jim while he continued his education. While there, LaVon served as the Young Women\s President for the Western Canadian Mission. Jim and LaVon later moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan where she continued to support Jim in his doctoral pursuits. They then moved to Rockville, Maryland and Innsbruck, Austria with their primary residence in Salt Lake City for the last 49 years. LaVon loved to travel and experience life in new cultures. She focused on people and relationships in all settings, whether professional, neighborhood, community, school or church. In her family, there are no in-laws, just children. Her relationship to Jim, her sweetheart of 58 years at her death, was preeminent in her life, but a close second was her love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

LaVon has a firm testimony of the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ and frequently spoke about her love of the Savior and her conversion and testimony. She served in many church and civic positions over the years and loved working with different people of all backgrounds. She is a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. She taught us much about enduring well to the end. We will miss greatly her straightforward candor and twinkling humor, her love of life and its opportunities, and her deep love of family and testimony of Jesus Christ.

LaVon is survived by her husband James Gibb; children Kathryn Kuttler (Kraig), Mark Gibb (Sheri); grandchildren Dyson Ellis (Rosie), Jonathan Ellis (Jaimee), Amber Kuttler, Stephen Ellis, Spencer Kuttler, Rebecca Ellis, Aaron Kuttler, Audrey Gibb, Loren Kuttler, James Robinson Gibb, and John Gibb; great-grandchildren Patrick Ellis and Grace Ellis; and her sisters LaVere Fillmore (twin), and Donna Robinson. She is predeceased by her parents Harry and Hannah Robinson; siblings Stewart Robinson, Lillian Klippert (Howie), Gordon (Dooley) Robinson (Leah), Art Robinson, Jean Sanderson (Gordon), Jeanette Court (Max), Eva Robinson and Larry Robinson (Katherine).
