Margaret Electa Dixon

1945 ~ 2017

Margaret Electa Dixon passed away at her home on November 21, 2017. She was born July 19, 1945 to Paul Smoot Dixon and Ora Nivian Anderson. She graduated from East High School and the University of Utah. Margaret was a gifted teacher, receiving her Master's degree in Special Education from BYU and her PhD from the University of Arizona. Margaret loved children, especially those who needed a little extra help, and spent her career teaching teachers the joy of working in special education. Margaret shared her expertise across the country, teaching in Utah, Texas and Virginia. She was a sought-after speaker and a renowned expert in her field.

Activity in the LDS Church was important to Margaret. Naturally, she served in many capacities as a teacher, sharing her love of the Savior and His gospel. Her classes were often standing-room only. One of her favorite opportunities was serving as Relief Society President in Cedar City, where she made many wonderful friends.

Margaret was a joy to be around. Always happy and enthusiastic, she had the ability to build up those around her and help them grow. She loved her family! Family parties could not begin until Margaret arrived with the games! Christmastime became a magical experience for nieces and nephews, and later for their children and grandchildren. Margaret always had the perfect gift for each child, tailored to his/her own special wishes.

Margaret is survived by her nieces and nephews: Becky (Lance) Larkin, Cathy (Don) Brown, Chris McKay, Rick (Lori) McKay, David (Traci) McKay, Kimberly McKay (Jared Raynor), and their families. Preceded in death by her brother, Paul S. Dixon and her sister, Vivian (Richard) McKay. The family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to Margaret's good friends, Karen Isiko and Melanie Robbins, for their continuous support and tender care. We also express our gratitude to Nilza Faria for her attentive care and thoughtful service.

Because Margaret was so loved by each of her nieces and nephews, her funeral will be held at Christmastime, when all of her family can be in attendance. Services will be Saturday, December 23, 2017, 11:00 am, at the Monument Park Ward, 1005 S. 2000 E., SLC. Friends may call at the ward 9:30-10:30 prior to the funeral.
