Lola Alice Burton Benson

1928 ~ 2018

Lola Burton Benson passed away on June 4, 2018 in Cedar Hills, Utah where she was living with her daughter, son-in-law and family. Lola was born April 25, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah, only child to Silas Walton and Sarah Leoan Burton. She grew up on Hazel Street (about 450 South 500 East). She loved to spend time with her Aunt Alice and her family, her Aunt Erma and her family, as well as other beloved family. Lola loved her parents, and later took good care of her ailing mom up until her death in 1981.

Lola took piano lessons for years at the McCune School of Music in Salt Lake City, and was a gifted piano and organ player. Lola served in the primary for over fifty years, playing the piano for the primary children. She loved working with the children. Her favorite primary song was "Where Love Is." Lola played wonderfully even up until her death.

Lola loved to read, take walks, and watch old movies. She loved to work in her yard, and had one of the best manicured yards in her area. She loved old Jazz Standards; some of her favorite singers were Dinah Washington, Nat King Cole, and Barbra Streisand.

Lola lived with her husband and three oldest children on the second floor of her parents' home on Hazel Street until they moved to the Rose Park area of Salt Lake City in 1954. They later had two more children, and raised their family of five children in their Rose Park home. Lola loved to go dancing with her beloved husband, Don. Lola and Don were married for seventy-three years before his passing in 2017.

Earlier in life, Lola loved to go camping and hiking with her husband and children. Some of their favorite spots were Strawberry Lake, Yellowstone, Lava Hot Springs, Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon, Lake Tahoe, and Yosemite. They loved to vacation in their trailer, and later in their motor home. Lola loved the ocean and loved to vacation in California. She loved to visit places such as San Diego, San Francisco (loving to visit Ghirardelli Square), Anaheim, Monterey, Pismo Beach, and loved Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm. Later in life when age prohibited camping and trips to California, they loved to go to Park City and take scenic drives.

Lola loved time with her family, and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Lola was a great wife, mother, and grandmother.
