Hazen L. Locke

1949 ~ 2017

Hazen "Haze" Locke, age 67, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2017. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother to his family, and a dear friend to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by his family and those whose lives were touched by his friendship and example.

Haze was born on June 16, 1949, to Myron and Thelma Locke in Murray, Utah, as the third of four children. Haze was raised in West Jordan, Utah and was a graduate of the old Bingham High School in Copperton, Utah. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served an LDS mission in the Argentina North mission from 1968-1970. Following his LDS mission, Haze enrolled at Brigham Young University where he became engaged to the love of his life, Jeanne Dalton. Haze and Jeanne were married on August 27, 1971, in the St. George Temple. Haze received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from BYU, and remained a passionate fan of BYU athletics throughout his life. Haze led a distinguished career with the Utah Department of Corrections, where he served for many years as the director of the Department's Inmate Placement Program. Haze loved his career with the Department of Corrections and greatly valued the many lasting friendships he made throughout his professional life. Although he endured significant challenges to his health for much of his adult life, Haze lived a rewarding life full of service to others. Following his retirement, Haze and Jeanne served an LDS service mission together in the Salt Lake Inner-City Mission from 2011 ‚ 2014.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gerald. He is survived by Jeanne, his loving spouse of 45 years, and by his children, Hayley Locke, Lance Locke (Gigi), Jace Locke (Lucrecia), Holley Crowther (Jared), and Tristen Stansfield (JR), and 14 grandchildren who will all greatly miss his presence in their lives. Haze is also survived by his siblings, Myra Bassett and Lynn Locke.

Haze's family would like to thank the staff at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah, for their loving care for Haze during the last days of his life. A funeral service for Haze will be held on Monday, January 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Crescent 30th Ward meetinghouse located at 85 East 11000 South, Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, Utah and on Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church.
