Doris Jean Chipman Gale, 84, died October 28, 2016, of causes related to Alzheimer's Disease. She was born November 22, 1931, in Burley, Idaho, the daughter of Theora Erekson Chipman and Eldon M. Chipman. She married G. Donald Gale on June 24, 1954, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
She is survived by her husband, three children ‚ Michael Glen, Pamela Dawn Jenson (Ronald), Christine Lynn Layton ‚ five grandchildren -- Brian, Amanda, Daniel, Caitlin, Ashley ‚ and four great grandchildren.
Doris attended East High School and the University of Utah. During her school years, she held jobs at ZCMI, the Internal Revenue Service, and the Air Force Procurement Office. When Don was in the military, they lived in Augusta, Georgia, where she was a clerk at the Augusta Arsenal. Later, she served in management positions at The Naturalist, Auerbach's, Castleton's, and LDS Hospital.
In Augusta, she was a cherished neighbor for many in the apartment building where they lived. She maintained some of those friendships throughout her life. Friends were devoted to her, and she was equally devoted to them. She was always available to help, counsel, and support anyone she thought needed a friend. She would often compliment strangers, always finding something positive to say.
Doris was a strong advocate for her husband and family. She willingly accompanied Don to countless community events, and she brightened whatever activity she attended. She gave much of her time and energy to her children and grandchildren, and enjoyed every excuse afforded her to be generous with them on birthdays, holidays, or special events. They knew she supported them at all times.
She believed strongly in her religion. When her children were young, she taught in the LDS Church Primary, and she later served in Relief Society callings.
With her husband, Doris traveled through much of the United States, Europe, and eastern Asia, always focused on what she might bring back for children and grandchildren. She spent the last few months at Sunrise Senior Center, where she greatly appreciated the friendship and assistance she received from a thoughtful and caring staff.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 2nd at 12 noon at Monument Park Stake Center, 1320 South Wasatch Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah. There will be a viewing on Tuesday, November 1st from 6-8 pm at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South and two hours prior to the services at Monument Park Stake Center.
