Spence Jenson returned to his Heavenly Father on September 22, 2017. He was born November 17, 1925 in Salt Lake City to Willard and Hertha Jenson. Spence grew up in the Garden Park Ward and had many life-long friends from that ward. Spence graduated from East High School and the University of Utah and served his country in the Pacific during World War II. After the War he served a full time mission to Sweden.
Upon returning from his mission, he married the love of his life, Joyce Love, on August 21, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple. Spence was co-owner of a family business and executive of Amware. His testimony of the Savior and serving others burned bright in his life and he was always interested in helping others feel loved. He loved serving as a home teacher and served as a guide on Temple Square for 13 years. Spence had many callings and loved Church service. He served in four bishoprics, including bishop of the Parleys 6th Ward. He served as a counselor in the Parleys Stake Presidency and as a Patriarch. He had the honor of serving with his sweetheart as the mission president of the Sweden Goteberg Mission, the Director of the Washington DC Temple Visitors Center, and the Stockholm Temple President. Spence also served as a sealer in the Salt Lake Temple.
He loved his wife and family. Spending time at Bear Lake with his family was one of his great pleasures. Helping his kids with projects was important to him. He helped in many building and remodeling projects.
Spence is survived by his sweetheart Joyce, their sons Rick (Diane), Bob (Teri), Ron (Pam), Reed (Barbara), Russ (Jan), Randy (Heidi), 20 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Gordon, sisters Ramona and Margaret and a great granddaughter Addie.
A viewing will be held at Parleys 6th Ward, 2350 South 2100 East Salt Lake City, UT from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday September 28th and Friday September 29th prior to the funeral from 9:30 -10:30 AM at the Parleys 6th Ward. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers contributions could be made to the Missionary Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
