Marilyn Louise Tracy

1933 ~ 2017

Marilyn Tracy lived a life of distinction, touching countless people along the way, showing bravery and kindness to all.

Born in Salt Lake City to Janice and Joseph Tracy, she overcame a bone disorder, visual difficulties and the prevailing attitudes of the day to attain a Master\s Degree in Speech Pathology, graduating with distinction. She went on to get a doctoral equivalency in the same field, studying in New York City after graduating from the University of Utah.

She taught at many universities, as well as being instrumental in the establishment of the speech therapy program in the state of Maine. For her many efforts, she has been recognized by the Who\s Who of Intellectuals and other organizations of that sort.

In her later years, she went on to teach on the Navajo Reservation, where she made many wonderful friends who she would cherish to the end of her days. Never married, she became a formative force in the lives of many young men in her family. Dennis, Robert, Michael, and Patrick Tracy all benefited from her care and guidance through their lives. She also served as a role model to her nieces, who looked to her as an example of how strength and compassion could best befit a person as they traveled through this life.

The last surviving member of a family of nine children, she lived to the age of 84. All but her last few months saw her in good health, engaged in the world and ever-interested in new things. She will be remembered for her constant drive to make the world a better place, to push back ignorance and foster free thought. With a keen mind and an unfailing sense of humor, she taught us so much.

Those she touched with her words and deeds will cherish her memory always.
