Thomas Tayler Williams

1943 ~ 2015

Thomas Tayler Williams, brother, uncle and great-uncle, passed away March 7, 2015, just shy of his 72nd birthday. Tom was born to Howard James Williams and Silva Tayler Williams on March 12, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

\"Tommy\", the boy who loved performing in children\s theater, grew into a man who continued to love language and words. After serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Finland, Tom returned and received a Master's degree in Linguistics from the University of Helsinki. He graduated from the University of Utah and, after Helsinki, received a PhD from Brigham Young University in Psychology.

Tom worked in the Alpine School District as a school psychologist for many years. Later in life, he continued to take pleasure in reading, especially history. He enjoyed recording readings for the blind at the Utah State Library for the Blind and Disabled. His other favorite pastime was spending time with his nieces, nephews and their families.

Uncle Tom was a loyal friend, an amazing uncle and great-uncle, the giver of stuffed animals and the bringer of ice cream. He will be missed by those who knew his gentle ways, his great humor, his unwavering support and his enduring love.

Tom is survived by brothers: Richard H. Williams (Viviene) of Virginia, H. James Williams (Janet) currently living in Denmark and sister-in-law: Jamie Williams. Also survived by nephews and nieces: Annabelle Namaguchi (Gen); Thibaut Williams (Elizabeth); Christopher Williams (Angela); Brian Williams (Elizabeth); Michael Williams (Amy); Julie Knight (Randy), Wendy Kobe (Kyle), Rebecca Slivka (Matt), Deborah Williams, Lori Leonard (Tony) and Emily Gates (Paul). He is preceded in death by his parents and by his younger brother, John Steven Williams.

Services will be held on Saturday, March 14 at 11:00 am at the church at 2625 E. Milo Way (4910 So.), Holladay, Utah. Friends may call at the church before the service beginning at 9:30 am.
