David Allan Russon

1956 ~ 2017

David Allan Russon (Dave) , 61, Father, Friend, Dad, Brother, and Grandad, returned to his heavenly home on December 5th, 2017. Dave was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on July 27th 1956, to Joseph Eugene Russon and Ila May Maughan. He was the fourth of four children.

From a previous marriage, Dave had one daughter, Lindsey. Dave later married Sherry Prater, on November 25, 1989. They had two children, Brett, and Brooke. Dave has 4 grandchildren.

Dave attended Bonneville Elementary, Clayton Junior High, and East High School, graduating in 1974. During this period, he excelled in sports, receiving scholarship offers in baseball and basketball. He also developed a significant musical talent and became an accomplished guitarist. He wrote his own songs, enjoyed performing for an audience, and developed a love of showmanship. Music was important to him throughout his entire life as he played in local bands, taught guitar, and shared his love of music with others.

He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Australia Melbourne Mission. Later, he went on to the University of Utah and was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He graduated in 1982 with a degree in Organizational Communications.

After college, Dave began his life's work as a junior financial planner for Dean Witter Reynolds. He learned the importance of trust, customer confidence, and hard work as he slowly built a clientele, offering investment advice and financial management. A company change offered him additional training and opportunities as he developed skillful tools to become a veteran financial planner. Dave retired from his successful career as owner and manager of a large successful business. He was proud to have guided his large client base to achieve financial success and security through his steady and conservative approach to investment and wealth protection.

In 2013, Utah Governor Gary Herbert appointed Dave to the Utah Securities Commission, where as one of five Commissioners, he supported and advised the Utah Division of Securities. He worked to promote fairness and equity within the investment community. As a mediator, he employed his considerable interpersonal skills in structuring the resolution of difficult or challenging issues within the industry.

Dave had a great love of the outdoors, and enjoyed his annual trips to Hawaii, visiting the beautiful surroundings of Southern Utah, and spending time with his family and friends. Dave was "quietly" generous to others in need, and looked for the best in the people he met. We will always remember Dave for his commitment to "family" traditions, his competitive nature, his love of life, having a soft heart, …and the joy he found in the pursuit of a goal.

He is survived by two brothers, Brent (Carolyn), James (Becky) and Karen Chipman (John), his son Brett Russon (Chandra), and his two daughters, Lindsey Harrison (Tommy), and Brooke Lewis (Will), as well as 4 grandchildren, Hailey, Will, Graham, and Finn. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
