Emil Virly Meyer

1927 ~ 2015

Our beloved father and grandfather, Emil Virly Meyer, 88, passed away on May 12, 2015. He was born February 19, 1927 to Jean Joseph and Emilie Virly Meyere in Orem, Utah. He was the baby brother his sisters Simone, Denise and Janine and brother Joseph adored. After his parents divorced, his mother married Dell Huff who loved her family as his own and was father and grandfather to her family.

On August 25, 1951 he married the love of his life, Geraldine Harrison. Never have two people loved each other like they did. In March, 1996 they were sealed in the SL Temple. Geraldine passed away April 2, 2012 and he has missed her every single day since. They are the parents of two daughters: Michele Christine and Pamela Barbara.

On February 19, 1944, his seventeenth birthday, Dad enlisted in the US Navy. He served as a machinist on the destroyer escorts USS Doniff and USS Moale. He was discharged in December, 1947 as a Machinist\s Mate Third Class. Following his discharge he worked for Talboe and Harlin as a crane operator. He worked on several projects in Utah and surrounding states including the Utah State Prison and the SLC Suburban Sanitary District\s sewage treatment plant. With his Navy training as a machinist and his knowledge of the treatment plant from participating in its construction he was hired as treatment plant superintendent. He then worked as General Manager of the District. Following his retirement in 1989 he was elected to the District Board of Trustees where he served until he was 82 years old. He so enjoyed his time working for the District making many lifetime friends within the District and also other districts in the valley.

Dad was a jack of all trades. There just wasn\t anything he couldn\t do and he was always willing and wanting to help others in any way he could. He was always busy tinkering, working in his wood shop/shed, or figuring out a better way to do something. He loved serving and being with his family. Summer weekends were spent out on the boat with family and friends. He was always game for a parade or circus or any way to spend time together. Dad and mom lived in the same home in South Salt Lake for 50+ years where their neighborhood was like a big family. Many thanks to their friends and neighbors who were so special and were such an important part of their lives. Dad was a member of the LDS church and enjoyed serving where ever he was called. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They have sweet memories of time spent with grandpa. He also loved his nieces and nephews and was like a brother to Ron and Glenda.

We will miss our dad and grandpa terribly but rejoice in the fact that he is now reunited with his sweetheart. He is survived by his daughters Michele Wright, Pamela (John) Larsen and his grandchildren/great-grandchildren Dustin (Lindsay) Wright (Caden, London, Cameron), Lisa (Brandon) Mayhew (Brooks), Rachelle West (Gayvn, Garret, Morgan), Kristy (Bronson) Little (Landon and Aubrey, Mckenna, Tyler, Logan), Trevor (Michelle) Larsen (Kaleb), Lindsay (Eric) Johnson (Harper, Porter). He is also survived by his nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, his son-in-law Kent Wright and his brother, sisters and in-laws.

Special thanks to his daughter Pam and her husband John who have been Dad\s primary caregivers and shared their home with him. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 15, 2015 at 2pm with a viewing from 12:45-1:45pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens (1950 East 10600 South). Burial will take place following services.
