Darrel G. Smith

1948 ~ 2018

Darrel G. Smith passed away on March 25, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on December 20, 1948 in Montpelier, Idaho to Glen Hyrum and GeNiel Kunz Smith. Darrel was raised in the Bear Lake area. He attended Idaho State University. He received his bachelors and masters from Brigham Young University.

Darrel served an L. D. S. Mission to the South West Indian Navajo speaking.

Darrel married Rhonda Ross in the Logan Temple in 1973, they were later divorced. Darrel married RaNae Walters in 2001 in the Salt Lake L.D.S. temple. He worked as an educator in the Jordan School District for 30 years and worked part-time for First Security Bank for 24 years. He loved the gospel and served in many church callings throughout his life. He was an ordinance worker in the Jordan River and Draper Utah temples. Along side his wife RaNae he filled two service missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Darrel is survived by his loving wife RaNae; children Melia (Kevin) Henrichsen, Jamie (Ben) Fletcher, Derek (Kerissa) Smith, and Dustin (Jamie) Smith; eight grandchildren; mother-in-law Marilyn Walters; sisters Joyce (Daryl) Woolstenhulme and DeLone Hayes; and brother Ralph (RaNae) Smith. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law Larry (Shelly) Walters and Brent (Shoko) Walters; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Glen and GeNiel; father-in law Joe Walters; twin sisters; and a brother-in-law Roger Hayes.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 30, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Granite South LDS Stake Center, 2126 E. Gyrfalcon Drive (10000 S.), Sandy. Viewings will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 S.), Sandy and again on Friday one hour prior to services at the Stake Center. Interment to follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens.
