Doris H. Scott

1931 ~ 2014

Doris H. Scott, age 82, passed away on January 3, 2014 in her home in Salt Lake City. She was born August 22, 1931 in Wallsburg, Utah to Ray Pyne Heward and Okie Bigelow. At a young age, she married Robert (Bob) Darrell Scott in the Salt Lake Temple on November 9, 1949. Their early years together were spent in the Eastern United States. Their children called Australia and the Philippines their home for most of their growing up years. The Scott family later lived in Ohio and Malaysia, then settled back in Utah.

A devoted wife and mother, Doris made serving the Lord her career. She loved people and had the ability to lead. In her earlier years, she served as Junior Sunday School coordinator and as MIA and Primary president.

Doris and Bob were companions in LDS Church leadership as they served closely together for over 40 years in locations around the world. Doris supported her husband as he served in leadership callings, including various times as branch president or bishop, as a district president in the Philippines from 1970 to 1973, and as president of the Cincinnati Ohio Stake from 1978 to 1981. She accompanied her husband back to the Philippines, where he served as the president of the Philippines Baguio Mission from 1988 to 1991.

Doris served in the Salt Lake Temple for twenty years, from 1992 to 2012. She served as an ordinance worker, trainer, supervisor, coordinator, staff coordinator, and as an assistant in the sealing office. She volunteered at the Huntsman Cancer Institute from 2004 until 2013 where she was recognized as the 2013 Volunteer of the Year. She also served as a volunteer at the Church Office Building, the Beehive House, and Pioneer Village.

She was preceded in passing by her husband, Robert Darrell Scott, in 1992. She is survived by her five children and their spouses, R. Craig Scott (Jackie), Randle E. Scott (Barbara), Laurie Lynn Bonner (J. Antone), K. David Scott (Auralee), and Daryl A. Scott (Apryl); 23 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters and their spouses, Afton Webb (Keith) and Darlene Packer (Norm).

Doris was an "Elect Lady" who made life a joy, and she found joy even in her passing.
