Virginia Duffin Howe Malin

1921 ~ 2015

Virginia Duffin Howe Malin of Salt Lake City, Utah passed away peacefully March 7, 2015. She was born February 4, 1921 in Provo, Utah to Rachel Pyne and Cyril Duffin.

She graduated from Granite high School and attended Brigham Young and Utah State Universities. She married David Ralph Howe January 26, 1940 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised 3 children.

She and Ralph worked happily side by side as they built the Scenic Motel in Salt Lake City which opened in 1947. Together they owned and operated the Motel, teaching their children the blessings of working together. They retired in 1973.

They had been married for over 43 years when Ralph passed away in 1983.

Later she married J. Brent Malin on August 22, 1989 and had several fulfilling years with Brent until his death in 2004.

Virginia was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she had many opportunities of service in the Church. She served for over 35 years as a Ward or Stake Librarian. She also had many years of service in the Relief Society, Boy Scouts and Sunday School.

Virginia loved to travel and enjoyed seeing new places and meeting new people. She also loved to walk and hike. Family and friends were treated to many adventurous hikes with Grandma leading the way.

Virginia leaves us all a great legacy of lifelong service to others. She served in many community service organizations and spent over 9 years as hostess at the LDS Church office building. Her greatest service was always to the individual person who needed help, whether it was a ride, a meal, a smile or a kind word. She was always willing to provide any service.

Virginia is survived by her children, Gary (Sharon) Howe, Kathryn (Harold) Smith, and Gordon (Carol) Howe, 13 grandchildren and 59 great grandchildren and her brother Tom (Janice) Duffin. She is also survived by 2 loving step daughters, Margaret (Kerry) Humble and Linda Hunter, 3 grandsons and 1 great granddaughter.

Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Max and James, a sister, Marie Crosbie and 2 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at Monument Park 9th Ward, 1565 S. Foothill Dr. Salt Lake City, Utah Friday, March 13, 2015 at 12 Noon. Friends may call the evening before at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, Utah from 6:00 ‚ 8 pm and from 10:30 ‚ 11.45 am at the meeting house prior to the funeral.

Internment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 S. Highland Dr. Salt Lake City, Utah
