Larry Max Holdaway

1938 ~ 2017

Larry Max Holdaway (79). Born April 6, 1938 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Died June 1, 2017 in Taylorsville, Utah.

Larry lived life with dignity and purpose. He was a talented husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He loved his family unconditionally, and each believed they were his favorite. He was a great listener and sounding board. Most of the lessons he taught were silently communicated by his example.

On January 28, 1958 he married his "little sweetheart" Pearl Ann Kay. Their family quickly grew to include 4 kids: Kory (Debbie) Holdaway, Lisa (Paul) Hardy, Tonya (Tom) Ahlquist and Angie (Mike) Denison. On March 8, 1980 they were sealed together as a family in the Salt Lake City Temple. This core family then grew to include 13 amazing grandkids and 14 equally amazing great grandkids.

As a self-taught artist, he loved painting pictures of old buildings and beautiful landscapes. He was a skilled craftsman in many areas including watercolors and woodworking. He wasn't overly competitive but he'd get a sly little smile whenever he'd win a round of cards. He was gentle, kind and reliable.

He spent 40 years working for Continental Baking Company where his skills as a purchasing agent and forklift operator were legendary. He took pride in a job well done. He started several small businesses and never shied away from hard work. His Parents were: Kenneth T. Holdaway and Rayola Theone Haun. Siblings: Kenny (Betty) Holdaway, Tom (Marilyn) Holdaway, Bonnie (Gary) Greenburg, Joan (Harold) Jacobson.

His life will be celebrated at his funeral on Tuesday June 6, 2017 at 11:00 am at Taylorsville Gardens 2nd Ward. (4252 S. Bennion Road.) A visitation will be held Monday June 5, 2017 at 6:00-8:00 pm at the same location, and at 9:30 am prior to the funeral.
