Steven John Haslam

1939 ~ 2018

Steven John Haslam, our gracious, devoted and special husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, left this mortal existence on October 29, 2018. Steve was born on May 14, 1939 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the second of five children of Kenneth John Haslam and Dorothy Knight Haslam. He was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah and San Diego, California. He married the love of his life and best friend, Lynn Carol Sargent, on June 20, 1962 in the Salt Lake Temple.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many leadership and teaching positions. He loved serving a mission with Lynn in the Salt Lake Temple Square Mission. He loved temple work and found joy in serving as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple.

Steve graduated from East High School and the University of Utah receiving a B.F.A. degree in Commercial Art. Steve also served in the US Navy and was a medical corpsman, assigned to the hospital ship USS Haven. After college graduation, he was employed by Gillham Advertising, David W. Evans Advertising, and Paragon Press. Steve found great pleasure in being involved as a Blazer Scout Leader, Scoutmaster, and a member of the Silver Beaver Steering Committee. He donated artwork to the Boy Scouts of America for many years. Steve loved to paint wildlife and landscapes. He was an accomplished and award-winning wood carver and artist. Steve found his happiest moments with Lynn, their children, and grandchildren. He was a patient, kind, thoughtful, and gentle man and will be deeply missed by family and friends.

He is survived by his children, Russ Haslam, Heather (Sean) Sant, and Amy Haslam Palmer; his nine grandchildren, Josh, Lindsay, and Hailey Haslam; Baylie, Addison, and Hallie Sant; Savannah and Gavin Palmer, and Livia Leek. His surviving siblings are: Edmund (Bonnie) Haslam, Elaine (Mark, d.) Fetzer, and Kevin (Kris) Haslam. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lynn, parents, and brother, Robert K. Haslam.

We want to thank Dr. Paul Shami, his staff and all the infusion nurses at the Huntsman Cancer Institute for their compassionate care. We would also like to thank the doctors and staff at the Moran Eye Center who took such great care of Steve over so many years.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 11 A.M. at the Hyland Lake Ward, 981 East Revere Circle, Murray, Utah. Friends and family may visit Friday, November 2, 2018 from 6-8 P.M. at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, Utah as well as prior to services at the ward beginning at 9:30 A.M. Interment will follow at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
