Lamar E. Day

1925 ~ 2017

Lamar E. Day, 91, passed away early Tuesday morning, May 9, 2017 following a long battle with cancer. Lamar was born September 29, 1925 to Brigham Elden and Isabelle Leggat Day in Salt Lake City, Utah, the second of four children. He graduated from South High in 1943. After graduation he served in the U.S. Navy where he was stationed on the troop transport USS General John Pope in the South Pacific during WWII. He was honored to serve his country. After the war he went on a LDS mission, serving in the Navajo-Zuni Territory in Arizona. After his mission he attended LDS Business College.

Lamar married Geneva Vaughn in 1950 and they had 5 children together. Geneva preceded him in death in 1968. Lamar married Janice Culligan on August 5, 1971 in the Salt Lake Temple. She had 4 children and they lovingly joined their families together and went on to have 5 more children. Together they had a total of 14 children, 25 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.

Lamar loved reading mystery novels, watching Jazz games and being with his grandchildren. He enjoyed writing and had finished a novel, several short stories and many poems. He was a hard worker and a great family provider. He will be missed!

Lamar was preceded in death by his wife Janice Day, daughter Diane Chaston and brother James Day.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E Dimple Dell Rd (10600 S) Sandy, UT. A viewing will be held from 9:30-10:30am prior to the services. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
