Kathleen Brewerton Garn

1950 ~ 2018

Kathleen Brewerton Garn passed away suddenly on Thursday May 31, 2018 while at dinner with friends, and her eternal companion Senator Edwin Jacob "Jake" Garn.

Kathleen was born Feb. 28, 1950, in Salt Lake City, to Joseph and Mary Brewerton. She married Jake Garn on April 8, 1977 in the Salt Lake Temple, and had 41 of the greatest years together.

Kathleen always made family her priority. She was the glue that held the blended family together. She understood the importance of traditions and was always working on plans to get the family together.

Her adventurous soul loved to travel, and alongside her best friend, she was able to visit many countries around the world. She was happiest however; at home, at the family cabin, and most especially in Sun Valley, Idaho. She often recalls going there as a child and fostered that love of Sun Valley in her children and grandchildren.

Kathleen made friends anywhere she went. She never hesitated to strike up a conversation with anyone. Her innate ability to make everyone feel loved, wanted, and welcome was second to none. She loved the friends she made. She was a kind soul, and an inspiration to all.

Kathleen had a strong testimony of the Gospel. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, she served as Young Women's President, Relief Society President, and most recently as compassionate service leader. It was a calling that came easily. She loved to serve others.

Kathleen had a light that brightened everyone around her. Her love, was like an ever flowing, never ending river; full of peace, generosity, and sincerity. She loved like no other, and gave all she had to all she came in contact with. Her zest for life was contagious, her smile was infectious, and her heart was pure.

She is preceded in death by her mother (Mary Eliza Davies) and father (Joseph Oscar Brewerton). She is survived by her husband Jake Garn, children, Jake Jr. (Sharon), Susan (Allen), Ellen (Darrin), Jeff (Heidi), Brook (Shauna), Matthew (Allyson), and Jennifer (Christopher), her 30 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and siblings Brent Brewerton (Evie), Barbara Prout (Jim), and Joanne Bello (Lynn).
