Howard Brent Hinckley

1964 ~ 2018

Our beloved brother and uncle passed away September 26, 2018 after suffering from several extended illnesses. As a kid Brent loved match-box cars, baseball cards, swimming, bicycling, scouting, skiing, rodeo clowns, and stuntmen, often expressing his desire to become one. As a teenager he played goalie on the East High Ice Hockey team, taking them all the way to state finals. He enjoyed watching all kinds of sports and taking his niece and nephew to Monster Trucks, the drag races, and especially Nitro Jam. He was imaginative, intelligent, and funny and could tell great stories. He never seemed to meet a stranger and always had a special place in his heart for those down on their luck. He was a big guy with a tender heart and shared a special bond with his beloved mother, Charlene, his angel. His family and friends will miss his sense of humor and tall tales.

After receiving an Associate\s Degree from Salt Lake Community College in cosmetology, he worked as a barber for his father at The Dollar Barber Shop in SLC. After injuring his back and not being able to barber, he worked as an escort/pilot car driver for over-sized loads and as a cabbie. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and received the office of priest.

Brent is survived by his sister Dayna (Martin) Ryan, nephew Adam Atherley, niece Alex Atherley and 15 cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother Charlene Hope Daley Hinckley, father Howard Daynes Hinckley and his grandparents.

The family wish to thank all those who provided care for him at The Lodge Jordan River, Applegate Hospice, and Advocates for Independence.

Graveside services will be held Friday, October 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Salt Lake City Cemetery, enter from 900 E Wasatch Avenue (500 N).
