Keith Spencer Jenkins

1925 ~ 2016

Keith Spencer Jenkins, 91, passed away October 9, 2016 in St. George, Utah. He was born to Junius Feremore and Mary Ann Petersen Jenkins on August 6, 1925 in Newton, Utah, a Cache Valley community located but a few miles from Logan. He loved his early years in Newton with family and friends.

Ever since he was a small boy he had interest and a desire to be involved in the funeral business. As plans were being formed in his young manhood to enter an embalming school, he received a call to serve in the North Eastern States mission for the church.

Soon after completion of his mission he was married to Bettie Jane Mayer from Charleston, West Virginia on September 29, 1951. Shortly after marriage he entered the military service and while there, he still had a paramount desire to be involved in funeral service. His desire was fulfilled in becoming a part of Larkin Mortuary staff in early 1952. In 1954 he received his Utah State Funeral Directors License, and continued with Larkin Mortuary for nearly 40 years until his retirement. He has always been pleased to have been in this profession and his association with so many fine people in the funeral business. He was especially proud to have remained with Larkin Mortuary all of his working years. Keith had a full and satisfying life with his involvement at the mortuary.

He also loved his service in the Church, he served as a Bishop, along with several other Ward and Stake assignments, and on the Stake High Council for 15 years.

Since retirement, Keith and Bettie lived in St. George for many years.

Keith and Bettie are the parents of 2 sons, Brent, deceased, Glen, St. George and one daughter, Anita, Salt Lake, and also one granddaughter, Angie, Oregon.

Keith always said excessive praise is not necessary. The Lord knows what is important, and anyone else usually doesn't care. He loved life and being in the service to others. He often expresses this statement, "Every day is a bonus, and it certainly doesn't matter what age you are at."

There will be a visitation for Keith Friday evening October 14, from 6-8 pm in St. George at the Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd. There will also be a visitation Monday evening October 17, from 6-8 pm at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple Street, Salt Lake City. A funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday October 18 at the Newton Ward Chapel, 100 West 100 South, Newton, Utah, where friends may call one hour prior to services.
