Maralyn Jensen Nielsen

1940 ~ 2017

On February 24, 2017, Maralyn died of a broken heart. She was a very tender and fragile flower who needed much love and security to thrive. Her blooming period was sadly shortened.

Maralyn was born September 12th in Rexburg, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Flossie Jensen, her two brothers, Frenchy and Dennis Jensen and her precious son, Jason. Maralyn graduated from Madison High School and then went on to Ricks College, which is now BYU Idaho. She earned an X-ray technology certificate and worked as the chief X-ray technician in the LDS Hospital in Idaho Falls. Her brother, Frenchy, was a pharmacist at the hospital, and he hired Rick as a technician. This is where they met. Rick was smitten with her beauty, her charm and that she was so engaging. When he was working, Frenchy constantly had to shoo Maralyn away from the pharmacy so Rick could get his work done. She was crazy about Rick from the beginning, and he became, and remained, the love of her life.

They married June 10, 1967 and were off to medical school. Maralyn worked and supported them until Christian was born, after which they "lived on borrowed money". She loved being a full-time mom to Christian and Jason, and when grandchildren came along, they were the center of her attention.

Maralyn loved people, could talk to anyone, and loved to talk. She was forthright with her opinions and feelings, and completely unfiltered. Things were either right or wrong, black or white with her. Maralyn was very passionate about her likes and dislikes. You rarely saw her without a Diet Coke. Rick will miss her gullibility and miss all the fun he had teasing her. She would believe anything he told her.

After Jason died, 22 years ago, Maralyn fell into a sink hole that she was never able to totally crawl out of. She lived through times of happiness, mixed with time of depression and despair. Rick's career propelled him forward, but Maralyn became very fragile. The best medical care could not help her find a sustaining joy in her life.

Maralyn will be remembered for her unmatchable charm, her love and devotion to family, and her loyalty to many, lifelong, dear friends. She took such pride in her son, Christian, her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth, her adorable grandchildren and especially, her beloved husband, Rick. We will miss her beautiful smile and her presence in our lives.
