Our loving mother and grandmother, Gwendolyn Mae Poulsen Stubbs, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2016 in her home in North Salt Lake, Utah. Gwen was born on November 28, 1932 in Los Angeles, California to Willard Lorenzo Poulsen and Solveig Mary Hansen. At three years old, she moved with her family to Oslo, Norway, spending her young childhood in the same area where her parents were raised. A few years later her family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where she graduated from South High School. She loved school and learning and continued her education at the University of Utah, where she was affiliated with Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She later transferred to Brigham Young University, where she received her Bachelor of Art Degree in Education. On May 24, 1956, she married Richard Clegg Stubbs in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They had two children, R. David Stubbs and Shauna Lynn Stubbs Howe, and four loving grandchildren.
Gwen later received her Master of Education from the University of Utah. Gwen was an example of hard work, dedication and had a true love and talent for teaching children. She taught second grade for seven years in Orange County, California and then taught first grade for thirty-seven years in Salt Lake City, Utah, primarily at Highland Park Elementary. She loved teaching and her students loved her. She couldn't go anywhere, without grown students stopping her to tell her she was their favorite teacher. She really enjoyed being with her family and her many high school, college and neighbor friends, attending her grandchildren's dance and sporting events, sewing and scrapbooking. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a great example to her family of faithfulness.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Shauna Lynn Stubbs (Scott Gary) Howe, David Stubbs and Michael Borge, as well as her grandchildren, Alexis Ann, Joshua Scott, Jacob Rich and Jonathan Gary Howe. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Willard (Billy) Lorenzo Poulsen, Jr.
