Mary Lou Erekson

1935 ~ 2018

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Mary "Lou" Erekson, 83, passed away on November 23, 2018 in Murray, Utah. Lou was born on, February 23, 1935 in Ogden, Utah to Anthon Edward Ted Anderson II and Leah Heppler Peterson Anderson. She married Alma Y. Erekson in the Salt Lake City Temple on November 24, 1954.

Lou\s first love was Alma. They met when she was only 13. But after meeting him, there was never anyone else for her. Lou grew up in a loving home with two brothers and a younger sister. She attended East High School as well as BYU where she excelled academically. She loved her family. So much in fact, that every chance she had she would tell everyone: \"we have 105 in our family\".

Lou served faithfully in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; from Relief Society President to Primary teacher, she gave every calling all her heart and soul.

She and Alma served several missions together in Boston, Massachusetts, Salt Lake City- Inner-City Mission, the Church Employment Center and Salt Lake City Detention Center. Her favorite callings involved music. Her love of music was clear as she shared her talents in many ways. She played the piano and loved singing with her beautiful alto voice. She also loved conducting choirs, especially for children. Lou was a fighter and came back from her first stroke in 2006 to serve in the Jordan River Temple.

Lou was a master gardener and her yard was full of beautiful and colorful gardens every spring and summer. Her tulips were the first to pop up each spring. She loved to have her hands in the dirt.

She would often walk the yard with Alma, showing him all she had done. He was always properly impressed. Because Lou was such a master gardener, she had the privilege of serving at Temple Square as a tour guide in the gardens.

Lou traveled the world with her sweetheart, Alma. But, her favorite place to be was home…home with her family surrounding her. She was an amazing homemaker and could fix anything. After the kids were grown, Lou took up bowling. Her awards always read things like, "most improved" or "lowest score ever" … and she was happy with that. She went for the company, not for the bowling. She had great friends: her Temple Group from the old Holladay 19th Ward, and her newer friends in her Parkway Ward and in the Farms at Tithing Hill neighborhood.

Lou died as she lived; surrounded by those she loved.

Her family would like to thank the nursing staff at IMC 14th floor, the Inspiration Hospice staff, and the staff and residents of Harmony Hills assisted living in Lehi.

Lou is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Alma Y. Erekson, daughters; Jody E. Sybrowsky (Layne) and Jill E Clonts (Wayne), sons; David Y Erekson (Norma), Edward \"Ted\" A. Erekson (Meg), Timothy Z. Erekson (Cindy) and Mark A. Erekson (Kathi), and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sister; Jane Rideout, brothers; Anthon Edward Anderson III and Jay M Anderson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her mother and father in-law, and her beloved foster daughter, Regina Jane Begay.
