Sara Hall Ellsworth

1923 ~ 2016

On an ordinary, foggy morning, an extraordinary woman passed away. Sara Hall Ellsworth slipped into immortality on February 13, 2016. She was 92. Her spirit is carried on by her four daughters, eight grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren. We are grateful for the many things we have learned from Sara throughout her life.

Never take a game home from grandma's closet. That way it will be fun when you visit. Let a dog or two or three share your bed. Love your family unconditionally, regardless of their choices.

Sara was the daughter of Brent D. Hall and Mary Jane ‘Jennie' Carter. She was born on October 7, 1923, in Nephi, Utah. She was the third of four daughters. Sara married Elman K. Ellsworth in the LDS temple. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She will be remembered as a caring mother and grandmother.

Much of Sara's married life was that of an army wife. She was a classy, beautiful woman. She was able to travel and live in many exotic areas of the world. She enjoyed her travels but she also spent many months alone, raising her family alone while her husband was deployed.

Sara was a masterful bridge player, enjoyed talk radio, politics and the Utah Jazz. She treasured her artifacts gathered from years of international travel. She was a culinary master, making the best chicken noodle soup, candy and ‘dippy eggs'. She wasn't a typical grandmother. She refused the moniker ‘grandma', preferring her grandkids call her Sara. Quit simply grandmothers are old, and Sara's spirit was never old. Sara could relate to teenagers and refused the status quo. She embodied the Frank Sinatra song ‘I Did It My Way'.

Sara biggest source of happiness were her dogs, husband and beautiful daughters; Susan, Patty, Linda and Laurie. Her daughter's lives were molded by Sara and the way she lived her life. She taught them to be strong, independent women.

She is survived by Susan (Skip) Daynes, Patty DeRose, Linda Mulkey, and Laurie (Richard) Torney; 8 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Elman K. Ellsworth, son-in-law Curt Lipke, granddaughter Lauren E. Mulkey and grandson Michael Torney. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at 11:00 AM, with visitation beginning at 10:00 am, at Larkin Mortuary 260 East South Temple. Special thanks to the Brookdale Assisted Living Center and Brighton Hospice for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Intermountain Therapy Animals in Sara's memory; or Lauren E. Mulkey Scholarship at Westminster College.
