Kent W Manning

1930 ~ 2017

Kent W Manning, loving husband and father, left his mortal existence at the age of 87 on Tuesday, September 5, 2017.

Kent was born on January 29, 1930 in Ogden, Utah to David Mark Manning and Florence Leona (Mitchell) Manning. Raised in Hooper, Utah, Kent was the youngest of three children. As a young adult, he served two years in the United States Army. Following his military enlistment, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Central Atlantic States Mission, which included parts of Virginia, West Virginia, North and South Carolina. After his mission, he attended Brigham Young University where he met his wife Carrie Joan Brewer. They married on May 18, 1955, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and remained happily married for 62 years.

In his early years he worked for Smoot dairy as a milkman and as an insurance salesman for Prudential Insurance, where he received many awards. Considering he stood 6 foot 4 Ω inches tall and loved working with people, it seemed fitting that he would settle into a career in retail management at Dahle's Big and Tall.

His service in the Church continued throughout his life. He served in various capacities that included counselor in the branch presidency located at the Utah State Prison. He loved working in the prison and served that community by conducting church meetings and Family Home Evenings every week for 12 years. He also served two stake missions and a mission with his wife at the Bishop's Store House in Sandy, Utah.

He will be remembered as a fun-loving, outgoing, optimist who loved a good joke, golfing, and spending time with family and friends. He will be missed by many!

He is survived by his wife, Joan (Brewer) Manning, sons: Jeffrey Manning (Megumi Manning) and Brent Manning, and daughters: Julie Morrow (Robert Morrow), Kari Manning, Susan "Jan" Jorgenson (Robert Jorgenson). Grandchildren: Krista Beebe, Dane Shurtleff, Tahoe Jorgenson, Diego Jorgenson, Logan Jorgenson, and Roman Jorgenson. Great grandchildren: Bailee Conway, Jaicen Conway, and Gabriel Bebee.

A viewing will be held Friday, September 15, 6:00 ‚ 8:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah. A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 16 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hooper City Cemetery in Hooper, Utah.
