Dorene Burrell Booth

1931 ~ 2015

Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 84, on Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at Seasons of Santaquin, in Santaquin, Utah.

Dorene was born on April 12, 1931, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the eldest daughter of Alfred Burrell and Alene Gwendolyn Miller.

She graduated from West High School, where she excelled in type and shorthand classes. Following her graduation, she became secretary to the president of Zion's Bank in downtown Salt Lake.

She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and doing various types of embroidery. She loved music, was an accomplished pianist and organist, and played the ukulele. She taught private piano and organ lessons for many years. She was a member of the American Guild of Organists and studied under noted tabernacle choir organist, Alexander Schreiner.

Dorene was an active member of the LDS Church, having served in a variety of callings, most commonly as an organist. She was also an organist for a number of years for the Bountiful Community Church.

Dorene married Ben Hill Booth on September 1, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of four children. She loved her family dearly and remembered them on birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions with personalized cards and envelopes she decorated herself.

For nearly sixty years, she devoted her spare time to family history and temple work. She and Ben made three trips to England, and she later traveled with her son, Ben, to Germany to further this work. Nearly 20,000 temple ordinances have been proven and processed through her efforts.

She and Ben served two full-time missions together, one in Billings, Montana, and one in Boston, Massachusetts. They also served in the Asian Branch of the Salt Lake Stake.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother, Ronald, granddaughter Michelle Liddle, and grandson, Jay Smith. She is survived by her children: Sylvia (Joe) Liddle; Ben (Jeanette); Rebecca (Chuck) Smith; and Brett (April); 23 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the staff at Seasons of Santaquin and to A-Plus Home Care and Hospice for their kind, compassionate, and loving care of Dorene.
