Donald Melvin Moake

1937 ~ 2015

Donald Melvin Moake, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, friend and neighborhood watchman passed away August 29, 2015.

Don was born August 25, 1937 to John Thomas Moake and Dollie Mae Hunter in West Frankfort, Illinois. After growing up in Marion, Illinois, he moved to Salt Lake City where he met and married his sweetheart Sharyn Burns on September 5, 1958. He was the star of his high school basketball team and was an avid fan throughout his life. He joined the Utah Pipe Trades Local 19 and was a loyal member for over 60 years. Don worked his entire life in support of his family and sacrificed much to take care of them. Don always put others first and could be seen greeting the passing neighbors and steadfastly watching over the neighborhood from his driveway while sitting in his chair and hat.

He is survived by his wife, Sharyn Moake, children Donald Scott (Sharon), Jon David (Bruce), Julee Montgomery, Stacey Hodges (Stephen) and Brent Alan (Limor), 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings John Thomas (J.T.), Marion Lee, Charles Raymond and Juanita FloRene Smith and two granddaughters Gracee Lee and Emma Lee Montgomery.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at the LDS Holladay 8th Ward Chapel, 5450 South Holladay Blvd, Holladay, Utah. A visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the services. Online condolences welcomed at www.larkincares.com
