Edward Mou-Lam Li

1948 ~ 2018

Our dear husband and father left this world surrounded by family on April 11, 2018.

Edward Mou-Lam Li was born the fourth of five children to Sze-Pok Li and Fai Szeto on November 15, 1948 in Hong Kong, under British Crown rule. At three months of age, Edward became deaf after contracting meningitis. As a young adult, he came to the United States to continue his education and to learn more English and American Sign Language at the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford, Connecticut. He then attended Gallaudet University to study Computer Mathematics. He graduated in the winter of 1977 and became a U.S. Citizen four years later. He started his career at NASA's Research Center in Santa Clara, California as a Systems Programmer. He continued working on software at IBM in Tucson, Arizona, at various E-commerce companies in Phoenix, Arizona and finally at Sorensen Video Relay Service in Salt Lake City, Utah where he retired in May of 2017. Throughout his career he worked on technology that improved the lives of Deaf people and made it easier for them to communicate. This commitment to strengthening the Deaf community started early on when he also contributed to the publication, Signs for Computing Technology (Jamison, 1983).

Edward loved sports cars, traveling, and fixing computers. Edward and Nancy Christensen were married on June 30, 1979 in Reno, Nevada and later sealed in the Mesa Arizona Temple in April 23, 1994.

Edward passed away after a yearlong battle with colon cancer.

He is survived by many family members including his wife Nancy, his son Eden Siu-Yue Li (Jamie) of San Mateo, California, his daughter Delia Li Randall (Jared) of Sequim, Washington, and five grandchildren. He also leaves behind his mother Fai Li of Hong Kong and his four siblings: sister Lillian Sum (William) of Toronto, Canada, brother Dennis Li (Julie) of Melbourne, Australia, brother Raymond Li (Fanny) of Long Island, New York, and brother Vincent Li of Hong Kong.
