Boyd Roberts Child

1928 ~ 2017

Boyd R. Child "Graduated" from this life to his next life on February 23, 2017. He so looked forward to being reunited with his beloved wife Joan and again seeing his family. He was comforted, supported and lovingly surrounded by his family as he slipped peacefully into the waiting arms of his wife.

He was born on March 1, 1928 to Stanley N. Child and Elsie Roberts Child in Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from East High School where he played football, ran track, and sang in the Madrigal choir. He met his wife Margaret Joan Easton in English class at East High School. After many years of dating they were married on May 5, 1950 and later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Boyd held on to that wonderful promise of eternal marriage and a forever family. He served in many callings, loved singing in church choirs, and developed a deep love and sure testimony of his Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

Dad graduated from the University of Utah in 1950 with a Bachelor Degree in Business, Banking and Finance. He was active in a fraternity, loved the big band era and dancing, skiing, boating, and basketball. He also served as Staff Sargent in the Army Reserve during the Korean War.

Masonry was the family business and whenever he wasn't in school he was on a construction site working. He was a 3rd generation master Mason, who continued to perfect that skill and pass it on to a 4th generation of sons and a 5th generation of grandsons. Boyd and his father Stan incorporated Child Construction Company, Inc. in June of 1965. He was always an active participant in the promotion of Masonry and its enduring qualities. Everywhere you look you will find his work; many LDS Temples and ward buildings, buildings on the U of U campus, Westminster campus, VA hospital, elementary schools, Steiner Building; we tried to count and it was well over 700 buildings.

He is survived by 5 children: Steve (Dee Anna), Cathleen (Dennis), James (Penny), Joseph (Teresa) and Daniel; 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife, parents, his brother Stan and sister Jane.
