Calvin Gene Miller

1927 ~ 2017

Our Dad was reunited with his sweetheart, Thelma, on Valentine's Day February 14, 2017. Calvin "Gene" Miller was the 13th child of Edwin and Mary Ann Miller, and grew up on a farm in Shelly Idaho. He joined the army after graduation and went to Germany after WWll. He went to Utah State University where he met his sweetheart Thelma Crittenden. He received a Master's degree at the U of U and was an Earth Science teacher at Hillside Middle school and Highland and South High Schools. He was given the nickname of "Rocky" after taking the students on rock hunting expeditions. He was also a basketball coach for many years. His passion was soccer. He started as a boys soccer coach and went above and beyond by being their chauffeur and also buying their cleats if they didn't have any. He switched to girls soccer so he could coach his granddaughters and was involved in AYSO and UYSA. His motor home served as the bus for hauling the girls to games and competitions near and far. He was also a master gardener. He would spend many countless hours tilling, planting, watering atmidnight, and picking the vegetables only to give them away to family, neighbors and ward members.

Calvin is survived by his children, Merlin, Anne, John, Ernie, Joy and Kae and their families. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters and his wife and sweetheart, Thelma.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 11:00 am at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road in Sandy. Visitations will be held on Friday, February 17 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Saturday from 10:00 to 10:40 at the mortuary.

We would like to thank the following for taking such good care of our Dad: His granddaughter Dayna and her husband Jason Zobrist, the Lodge at Riverton and their staff and Cozy Hospice.
