Betty Ann Tenney Hopes

1925 ~ 2016

Betty Ann Tenney Hopes passed away peacefully at her home Monday, April 04, 2016.

Betty was born on April 14, 1925 in Salt Lake and grew up in Magna. She married her life time love Herb Hopes on December 29, 1956 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

Betty is survived by her sons: Jim and Dan (Kris); four grandchildren, James and Samantha of Missouri, Benjamin and Natalie; 1 great grandchild, Mekhi; brother, Robert (Darlene). Preceded in death by her husband Herb, her parents, and her sisters Margaret and Joretta.

Betty was born the second child of four to Fan and Jack Tenney. As hard as the depression years hit most families, Betty always talked about how much they had and how lucky they were as a family. Betty attended St. Marks School for Nurses and became a Registered Nurse in 1947. She worked at a variety of hospitals in the Salt Lake area, staying the bulk of her career at the VA hospital, retiring after 30+ years. She enjoyed the friendships she made with fellow nurses during her training years at St. Marks as well as during her working years.

Betty loved her family. She was routinely consulted as the "family doctor" and helped out anytime she was asked. The family vacations spent camping at the various State and Federal Parks were among her favorite memories. She loved her grandchildren and they were the highest priority in her life. She loved spending time with them and could never get enough.

Betty was a Nurse by profession and incredibly caring by nature. If she asked you "how are you doing," she genuinely wanted to know and deeply cared.

A special thanks to the Nursing staff and care givers of Valeo Home Health and Spectrum Home Services. Their loving care and kindness to Betty during a difficult time in her life made a huge difference and is greatly appreciated by the Hopes family.
