Donna Maud Dredge Bauman

1920 ~ 2014

Donna Maud Dredge Bauman, 94, passed away peacefully in her home on February 24, 2014. Donna was born in Brigham City, Utah on January 6, 1920 to William Rhees Dredge and Beatrice Maud Harris Bartholomew Dredge. She was raised as the youngest child and was beloved by her older siblings, LaRene (Hunsaker), Lester Dredge and Charles Dredge all who have preceded her in death. Donna married Thomas Earl Bauman on September 1, 1944 in the Salt Lake Temple.

Until the age of 17 Donna enjoyed life growing up in Brigham City. She loved Peach Days, events in the Brigham City Tabernacle, climbing fruit trees in the orchards, feeding and tending animals, and cheering for Box Elder High. Donna had a beautiful voice and sang in school programs and musical productions. She loved singing with her father, Bishop Will Dredge, at many church functions. At the age of 14 she served as ward organist in the Brigham City 6th ward playing on an old pump organ which had been owned by her grandfather, Henry William Harris.

At the age of 17 she moved to Salt Lake with some friends to study at LDS Business College. She also obtained work at the Salt Lake Clinic as a medical records transcriber. She did not know at the time that in the years to come the Salt Lake Clinic would be the place where her husband, Thomas, would practice orthopedic surgery for 35 years.

Through early years Donna developed expertise in shorthand and typing. These skills were well used in transcribing her husband\s doctoral thesis and in helping her children with many critical term papers throughout their education. Donna was devoted to her husband and children and her greatest joy in life was spending time with her posterity. She loved hours spent at Brighton and Midway.

Donna loved to serve and had wonderful associations with Relief Society sisters of the church in the Monument Park 13th Ward, Monument Park 8th Ward and the Federal Heights Ward. She served as president of the Relief Society in the Monument Park 13th Ward from 1976 to 1979. In 1982 she and her eternal companion, Tom, served a mission in the Florida Ft. Lauderdale Mission assigned to Nassau Bahamas. Rich associations grew out of this assignment and were maintained throughout her life. Donna also served church callings at the Beehive House, Membership Records Department and Liberty Stake.

Mother was a wonderful matriarch of her family. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Thomas Earl Bauman, and a son, William Wayne Bauman. She is survived by her children--Anne (Dennis) Griffin, Thomas (Mary Ann) Bauman, daughter in law Nancy Hill Bauman, Robert (Colleen) Bauman and Kathryn (Paul) Young as well as 56 grandchildren and spouses and 75 great- grandchildren.
