Stuart Lloyd Davis

1919 ~ 2014

Stuart Lloyd Davis, age 95, died Wednesday, August 27, 2014 in Herriman, Utah. Stu was born June 14, 1919 in Caldwell, Idaho to Glenn Howard and Edythe Mae Davis. He married Lucille ("Dixie")Welker, on June 17, 1940. They were married for almost 72 years, until her death on February 16, 2012. Together they raised a son and a daughter who gave them seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In 1940 Stuart began work as a mail carrier for the United States Post Office, passed a rigorous Civil Service examination in 1954, and worked as a postal inspector, until his appointment as a regional manager responsible for determining the space and equipment needs of new post offices. When the post office was reorganized and was succeeded by the United States Postal Service, Stu accepted an early retirement on June 30, 1971.

Stu had three great passions in his life, Dixie, his grandchildren, and golf, pretty much in that order. He was also a traveller, a square dancer and a story teller. More than anything else he was a stand up guy, fiercely loyal to his friends and devoted to his family. Stu will be deeply missed. He is survived by his children, Steven (Katy Gayle), Diane (Bill) Bohling, grandchildren, Mark (Tiffany) and Alicia Davis; Brinton, Matthew, Nathan (Josie), and Jacob Bohling; and three great-grandchildren, Isabelle Davis, and Zoey and Ruby Bohling. His sister Elda Mae and brothers, Glenn and Robert, and one grandson, Peter Bohling, preceded him in death.

A family dinner will be held in celebration of Stuart's life, in Salt Lake City, Utah. The family acknowledges the loving kindness provided to Stuart by Five Star and CNS Hospices, Bright Star Lifecare, and the Beehive Home in Herriman, Utah.
