Robert Michael Weber

1939 ~ 2017

It is with great sorrow that we say goodbye to our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Mike Weber, 77, who died on Saturday, January 28, due to stomach cancer. Mike had no strangers in his life because within seconds of meeting someone, they were friends. He loved talking to people, and his friendly outgoing personality endeared him to everyone.

Mike was born in Berkeley, CA in 1939 to Lt. Cmdr. Robert L. Weber and Maxine Erickson. The family lived in Pearl Harbor when it was bombed, and Mike liked to boast that he was a Pearl Harbor survivor even though he was only two years old. His father died when he was six years old, and his mother married Colonel Christiancy Pickett. Mike became an "army brat" as his stepfather moved the family to new posts. Mike attended school in Puerto Rico, Panama, and Oregon. He graduated from San Rafael High School in CA and then attended BYU where he lettered in tennis. In college he was known affectionately by teammates and friends as "Bear Weber," and it was at the Y that he met his wife, Jeanne. Mike went through the Air Force ROTC program at BYU and graduated as a 2nd Lieutenant. He and his wife were stationed at Warren AF Missile Base in Cheyenne, Evreux AFB in France, and then RAF Mildenhall in England where he served as the Base Deputy Commander for Security and Law Enforcement.

Upon his discharge from the Air Force in 1969, he became a "man of the cloth" working for House of Fabrics before becoming a partner in the Great American Fabric Store chain. He later worked for American Express where he retired as manager of the travelers cheque division. Mike loved playing golf, and after retirement, he worked at South Mtn Golf Club as a course marshal. He also worked as a substitute teacher in Jordan School District and was loved by the students due to his innovative and fun teaching style.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife Jeanne, two daughters Michelle and Tammy (Ross), son Quinn, sister Patricia Bunderson (Bill) and five grandchildren whom he adored: Sydney, Miles, Taylor, Kelsey, and Brynne.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 6 at 11:00 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 S. in Sandy, with a visitation prior to the service from 9:45-10:45 a.m.
