Layne Daryl Williams

1971 ~ 2015

Layne Daryl Williams passed away at his home in Salt Lake City on September 22, 2015, at the age of 44, after battling cancer for over three years. Layne was born on September 20, 1971 in San Jose, California to Daryl and Carol Williams. He grew up in Concord, California. He has one brother, Jeffery, and two sisters, Keri Dee and Jenifer. Layne was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission for the Church in Norway. He then studied Biomedical Engineering at the University of California at San Diego. He Received his Ph.D. from the University of Utah in 2008. Layne married Teresa Riding in the Oakland California Temple on November 16, 1996. They are the parents of four children: Jacob, Jonny, Megan, and Rachel. As a scientist, Layne accepted his cancer diagnosis as an opportunity to participate in research that would benefit the greater community. He endured numerous clinical studies as he fought the disease. His contribution to cancer research cannot be measured, and his willingness to use his resources--even his illness--to benefit others exemplifies what he believed to be his purpose in life. Although he will be missed by his family, including numerous nieces and nephews, he will be remembered with love and without regret. Layne\s family thanks the staff of the Huntsman Cancer Research Center and M.D. Anderson for the excellent care he received throughout his treatment, as well as the many friends who have provided support. A viewing will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Larkin Mortuary ‚ Downtown, 260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City. The funeral services will be held on Monday, September 28, 2015, at 11:00 A.M. at the Rose Park Stake Center, 760 North 1200 West, (West Side of Building) Salt Lake City, Utah. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 just prior to the service.
