Ginger Hunsaker Steensma

Ginger Steensma, beloved daughter, wife, mother, and friend passed away February 12, 2019. She was born January 16, 1967, in Fontana, California, to Frank and Diane Hunsaker, the second of five children. Ginger was our "Merry Sunshine," with a heart of gold, giving her time and love to all around her. She married Michael Steensma and was devoted to him and her four beautiful children.

During her childhood, her father's work promotions brought frequent moves and she quickly made friends in Sacramento, California; Taos, New Mexico; Tempe, Arizona; Ely, Nevada; Bellingham, Washington; Sedro Woolley, Washington; and Baker, Oregon. As a teenager in Eugene, Oregon, her passion for horses was shared with her friend, Lanae Snyder Bang, and they were delighted to spend time cleaning stalls and grooming their horses daily before junior high school. Ginger graduated from North Eugene High School.

Ginger earned her associate degree in nursing at Weber State University in 1991. She loved her service as a Registered Nurse for 28 years, most recently at St. Mark's Hospital in Murray, Utah. She cared for patients with love and compassion in home health care, assisted living, hospice, and hospital nursing. Her joyful laughter cheered everyone around her. She consistently went far beyond what was required, with her devotion extended to their families, particularly in hospice and home health care.

Ginger loved to make her home beautiful, with talents in decorating, arranging flowers and gardening. She found joy in surprising people with gifts and she was devoted to supporting her children in their activities in football, dance, music and horses.

She is survived by her parents, Frank and Diane Hunsaker, her husband Michael Steensma, their children Julianna Weight and Ryan, Cameron, and Lindsey Steensma, brother Boyd Hunsaker, sisters Lynn Hunsaker, Pam Peeler, and Linda Huberd, and her many cherished nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 16th at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road, Sandy, Utah, at 2 p.m. with viewing from 12:30-1:45 p.m.
