Don W Black

1921 ~ 2018

Don W Black passed away May 15, 2018, at the age of 96, after sustaining injuries from a fall. He was a fighter to the end. He was born on September 5, 1921 in Fillmore, UT to Dennis Wells and Margaret Warner Black. He attended West High School where he met his sweetheart Elaine Myers. After the bombing at Pearl Harbor, Don enlisted in the Army, two weeks later married Elaine in the Salt Lake Temple, and was off to the war. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers in the Pacific Theatre.

Don was a natural businessman. He successfully started several businesses including Mallory Engineering, Midwest Electric, Arms Technology Incorporated, among others. But his greatest success was the legacy of love for family and the cabin he built for them in Heber City, UT. He would do anything for his family! He was generous nearly to a fault. He funded college educations, LDS missions, and other family needs. Don loved hunting, trap shooting, and working at the cabin.

Don is survived by his brother Morgan, two devoted daughters Leslie (Jim) Havell and Lynne Black, Grandchildren Mark Havell, David (Katherine) Havell, Scott (Leanna) Havell, Don Havell, Amy (Kevin) Harcourt, Matt (Jamie) Havell, Brooke Harris, Erin (Jeff) Payne, Ryan Roestenburg, 24 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren who all loved their grandpa great. He was preceded in death by his wife Elaine, parents, and siblings Ruth, Mae, and Paul.
