Darwin Ray Platts

1931 ~ 2015

North Salt Lake ‚ Our beloved Father, Grandfather, Great-grandfather and our hero returned home to his Heavenly Father and his sweet wife Wilma on July 4, 2015.

Ray was born October 7, 1931 in Lyman, Wyoming to loving parents, George Kent Platts and Vera Jenks.

On August 21, 1953, Ray married the love of his life Wilma Ruth Clark in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their vows were solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 21, 1973.

Ray was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings.

Ray was the quint essential patriotic American. His true passion was serving in the U.S. Navy, from May 1951 ‚ August 1991 retiring at the rank of Chief Petty Officer. During his time in the Korean War he served aboard the USS Taussig DD-746 where he made many lifelong friends. After retiring he was active with the Sea Cadet program at the Naval Reserve Center in Salt Lake City for several years.

Ray (Grandpa Great) was a true sports fan and never missed a chance to watch and cheer for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in whatever they did. He also enjoyed many hours watching football with his wife and to cheer on their favorite team, the Minnesota Vikings.

Ray is survived by his children, Karen (Robert) Burnham; Kyle (Julie) Platts; five grandchildren, Michael, Alex, Aimee, Clay, and Trevor; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Wilma, brother Glen and sisters Hope and Claire.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the excellent staff of the Veterans Nursing home in Ogden, Utah for the loving care they gave in those last few months.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday July 14, 2015, at 1:00 pm at the Orchard 3rd Ward Chapel, 261 East Center Street, North Salt Lake. The family will greet friends on Monday at the Larkin Funeral Home, 260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, from 6-8 pm and from 11:45-12:45 prior to the services on Tuesday at the church.

Interment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery 2224 South 200 West, Bountiful, Utah.
